Can flea bites make you sick?

The Public Health Department of Seattle and King County states that a flea bite can cause serious itching and possibly skin infection, but there is also a risk of the transmission of deadly diseases. Fleas that live on dogs, cats, and other furry animals can cause typhus, cat-scratch fever and plague in humans. Fleas can be killed with various insecticides and insecticide shampoos.
