Under normal circumstances, urine does not contain protein as a by-product of kidney filtration. The presence of protein in urine otherwise termed as proteinuria is defined by the presence and abnormally elevated levels of protein in the urine. This condition is also known as albuminuria since the main protein that can be found in people that suffers from this condition is albumin.

This condition is also indicative of chronic renal failure in most adults. Those people who suffer from DM Type 2, hypertension, and pyelonephritis may also have this condition.
The presence of protein in the urine exhibits a cloudy, turgid appearance. It may also have a foamy texture, which in most cases may be a sign of disease progression. Generalized swelling or pitting edema is common to patients with chronic renal failure who exhibits proteinuria.
Aside from cardiac conditions and non-insulin dependent diabetes, those who are chronically overweight are more likely to suffer from the condition. As for race, Pacific Islanders, African Americans, Caucasians, and Indians are quite very susceptible to the presence of protein in the urine.
