Common Heart Disorders

In today’s world, there are countless types of heart disorders that affect every race and age group. These disorders may cripple a person’s proper functioning and quality of life and may even cause one’s death as well. This article tackles the five most common types of heart diseases, how they are acquired, and how can they be cured as well.

First off, one of the most common heart diseases is congenital anomalies. This one differs from the rest of the heart disorders since congenital cardiac conditions are passed on from one family member to another. This type is not preventable yet surgical interventions do wonders especially for children born with cardiac anomalies. This group of heart disorder can be passed on through a faulty gene in one’s lineage, or it can be caused by unhealthy practices of a mother with a pregnant child such as smoking, alcohol and drug intake, and poor diet.

Then there’s congestive heart failure. This condition happens when the heart is incapable of pumping adequate amounts of blood to other body parts. Congestive heart failure can be caused by the formation of cholesterol plaque in the arteries or less than normal cardiac output. People suffering from this condition may exhibit edema, swelling of extremities, kidney complications, shortness of breath and irregular cardiac rhythms.

Coronary heart disease on the other hand is caused by lack of blood supply to the chambers of the heart, fatty deposits in the lining of the arteries, and narrowing of portals caused by these fatty plaques. One uniform symptom of patients with CHD is resting angina or chest pain.

Lastly, there’s pulmonary heart disease. This condition comes as a complication of lung problems and certain types of cancer. There is less blood and oxygen supply from the lungs, heart, to the other parts of the body, thereby patients that have chronic pulmonary heart disease in exacerbation die from respiratory acidosis and cardiac arrest.
